Komšić at the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the death of Čedomir Domuz

(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić attended today the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the death of Čedomir Domuz and paid tribute and laid flowers at the Brezovača Memorial.

On July 30, 1992, during the operation to liberate Trnovo, the legendary commander of the defense of Igman, Čedomir Domuz – Bato, was killed.

On the same day, at the Rogoj pass near Trnovo, Smajo Somo also died, the oldest soldier of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Igman, who was 70 years old at the time of his death. He was so brave that he did not even hide when the enemy fired bursts along the lines. He used to say: "Forward, boys, they can't do anything to us," and those were his last words.

Čedomir Domuz was an ordinary man from the people for whom homeland came before and above everything; he was a man who united all differences in his unit and resisted the aggressor.

Čedo's son, Teo Domuz, stated that his father, at the very beginning of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a police officer of the then state, somehow saw what was happening, what was being done and prepared.

“With about thirty of his friends, colleagues, acquaintances, he preempted the situation and went to Igman, to Brezovača. His other colleagues went to Mrazište. And they literally took Igman from the aggressor side. Igman, as a mountain, both in World War II and in our war, is a strategic place for Sarajevo, and therefore for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Somehow they reacted in time and took Mount Igman in time, occupied it, and it later turned out that it was the only open road to Hrasnica and the airport, and later to the tunnel and the entrance to Sarajevo.”

“The Wolf of Igman” was an exceptionally brave man who was with heart and soul for Bosnia and Herzegovina, for which he gave his life. After her son's death, Čedo's mother Desanka, instead of herself, encouraged others and always said: “We must not give up the fight for Bosnia and Herzegovina!” After his death, she was proud. She used to say it was better for him to die heroically than to live cowardly.

He said that if he died, he should be buried at Brezovača next to the partisan memorial, where the bones of 98 liberators of Hadžići from World War II lie. After he lost his life, his wish was fulfilled.

Čedomir Domuz was posthumously awarded the highest war decoration, the “Golden Lily,” and later the “Police Medal for Bravery” and the “Order of the Golden Coat of Arms with Swords.” Čedo's fighters were volunteers, always by his side. Buried next to him is Adnan Došlić, who wrote in his will: "Bury me next to Čedo."
