Komšić at Žuč Hill: This magnificent monument is proof that our fallen comrades are not forgotten, nor is their sacrifice!

(Patria) - The completion of the construction of the "Wings of Freedom" monument on Golo brdo at Žuč Hill was symbolically marked on the Day of Defense of Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality.

Strong messages were sent from Žuč Hill on this occasion. It is a place where the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina was written.

Željko Komšić, member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, addressed the thousands gathered and said that they were accustomed to thunder here - whether from a tank or from the sky.

“It is not my intention to give speeches about the past, but it is my intention to remember in our thoughts our wartime comrades who gave everything for the homeland. This magnificent monument is proof that they are not forgotten, nor is their sacrifice. This monument is an obligation of our entire generation to have fulfilled its duty to the homeland bravely and honorably,” said Komšić.

He added that he does not want to be pathetic, but that those who remained alive and relatively healthy should remember their fallen comrades.

“Eternal thanks to them for everything. I will not talk about the past, but I will say something about the present and the future. Who are we today, are we aware of the moment we live in, do we know what we want and where we are going. It is clear to us that the policies that produced evil have not only not disappeared, but are strengthening and attacking our small and beautiful country again. They think they have hidden their goals better and more cunningly, they think we are not paying attention to what they are doing. It is possible, but the answer to the question – what are we doing? – is more difficult. Are we aware? Perhaps they think that the moment for the final blow is before us. Perhaps so, but the answer is difficult. Yes, but what are we doing. Are we aware of the world around us. Does it matter to us what is happening.

I wonder if we are aware that the persecution of people for their opinions has begun, that the repressive bodies of our state have started acting against those who speak. Are we ready to satisfy various joint criminal enterprises, to be on the menu of Greater-state projects. These are ugly questions, and the answers are brutal and painful. Are people in Bosnia and Herzegovina ready to hear such questions. And, I especially wonder if we are ready to hear the answers for the sake of our personal comfort,” said Komšić.

We remind you that the most territory was liberated during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 8, 1992, in the area of Žuč, and this was one of the first victories of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Novi Grad Municipality had 25,000 soldiers, a large number of them gave their lives for the defense of the country from the aggressor, for the freedom in which the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina live today, which is why everyone is obliged to remember them, as well as the glorious victories.

The wingspan of "Wings of Freedom" is 25 meters, and the height is 16 meters. The monument will be illuminated and visible from numerous locations in Sarajevo.

"Wings of Freedom" by professor Emir Salihović will adorn the Žuč Memorial Complex, and they symbolize defense and the fight for freedom, as well as all those who gave their lives for the defense of Sarajevo.
