Komšić: Only a civic BiH guarantees a society without conflict, the 'Kovačević' ruling is a line below which we do not go

(Patria) - In response to the claims of the president of the entity of RS, Milorad Dodik, that Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot be a civic state, the Speaker of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and president of the Democratic Front, Željko Komšić, has spoken out.

Komšić emphasizes that only in a civic Bosnia and Herzegovina do ideas that create conflict become irrelevant.

- Only as a civic state does Bosnia and Herzegovina emerge from an era of conflict and social divisions, as well as from attempts to divide the country. The idea of a civic BiH creates a completely new paradigm in ethnic and social relations.

It becomes irrelevant how many members of any ethnic group there are. With a civic BiH that guarantees and protects individual rights, all identities, including ethnic and religious ones, are automatically protected throughout the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

All ideas that have created any kind of conflict in our country lose their importance in the lives of any citizen of BiH - Komšić stated.

He emphasizes that ethnic parties scare people into believing that they lose their cherished identities in a civic BiH - this is a lie and manipulation.

- Precisely these identities are best protected within the civic idea, because this idea protects individuals and everything they are as people. Being a Bosniak, Serb, Croat, Roma, Jew, etc. in a civic concept is neither a disadvantage nor an advantage.

What matters is what kind of person someone is, their expertise, capability or incapability, their integrity, honesty or dishonesty, etc. And this applies throughout BiH - Komšić adds.

He also commented on the announcements of rejecting the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the "Kovačević" case, stating that the ruling is historically important for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that it is a line below which we do not go.

- Milorad Dodik can accept or reject the Kovačević ruling, but such an action means nothing.

The ruling exists and will exist regardless of what anyone says, thinks, or does about it, and it has set a historical precedent important for Bosnia and Herzegovina. It now becomes the "lower limit" below which we do not go - Komšić concluded.
