Komšić and Bećirović Warn BiH Diplomats: Respect the Constitution and Foreign Policy of BiH

(Patria) - Presidency members Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović sent a letter to all heads of BiH diplomatic-consular missions.

They remind them that as representatives of BiH, dedication to the principles of professionalism in the diplomatic service is expected of them.

„With this letter, we do not wish to send you any instructions, but rather to invite you to act in accordance with the principles of constitutionality and legality, therefore we remind you of the obligation to always respect the Dayton Peace Agreement, the Constitution of BiH, the laws and other regulations of BiH, the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, strategies, resolutions, and other decisions in the area of BiH's foreign policy“, the letter states.

Furthermore, Bećirović and Komšić note that foreign policy is the exclusive jurisdiction of the state of BiH and within the competence of the BiH Presidency.

„BiH entities do not have any authority to consider issues from the domain of foreign policy. The position of entities in the state of BiH is defined by the Constitution of BiH, and they exist only on the basis of this Constitution. Entities do not have international subjectivity; only the state of BiH has it“, they add.

The letter further emphasizes that any disrespect of the Constitution and laws of BiH constitutes a serious criminal offense.

„Therefore, we call on you to be above political pressures, to respect the laws, and for professional standards and personal integrity to be the basis of your actions. Representing the unilateral interests of individuals instead of the interests of the state is not in accordance with the Constitution and laws of BiH, nor with the principles of diplomatic practice.

Perform this honorable duty and mission with responsibility and dedication, always aware that your words and actions shape not only the relations that BiH builds with the world, but also mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation within our society“, Komšić and Bećirović emphasize.
