Komšić: Closure of the General Hospital is a historical injustice done to the citizens of Sarajevo

President of the Democratic Front Željko Komšić today also commented on the case of appointing Sebija Izetbegović, wife of the Bosniak member of the Presidency Bakir Izetbegović, to the head of the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo (UKCS), and the announced merger of UKCS and the General Hospital „Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš“, reports a reporter of the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- First, I don't know if the decision to merge UKCS and the General Hospital has been formally legally adopted. For such a decision, the founders need to be consulted; the situation is a bit more complicated because the founders of both institutions are different. In the case of the General Hospital, as far as I know, the founder is the Sarajevo Canton, and in the case of UKCS, it is several cantons and the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In my opinion, it is a great loss, and if you will, even a kind of historical injustice, being done to this city and its citizens by closing the General Hospital „Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš“. Those who were in Sarajevo during the war, those who unfortunately had the opportunity to use the services of this hospital, know what it meant. In the end, that building and that property were purpose-built for a hospital. Everything in it was done purposefully. Secondly, that hospital, property, building, and land represent assets obtained through succession; they were the property of the former Secretariat of National Defense of the SFRY and then belonged to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The transfer of such property is prohibited – Komšić pointed out.

Of course, Komšić added, now it is clear to you that we left the government precisely for these reasons, because force and arrogance are what characterize this kind of government, and they can apparently do anything, with only one problem: everything is illegal and unlawful.

- What I see from the reaction of ordinary people, the public is not silent. It is another matter how it is presented through the media. I don't know what motivated Mr. Izetbegović to do this. I am not entering into anyone's professional references; I am not competent to judge that, not even regarding Mrs. Izetbegović. I know that if he had asked me, accidentally or intentionally, I would have advised him not to do it. It irritates people, greatly irritates. That, especially in a country where parents are watching what will happen to their children, where parents openly advise their children to leave the country, and to do something like that is a direct stab to the heart. In my opinion, this is something Izetbegović should not have done, without entering into professional references. If all this was done with the aim of achieving personal ambitions and vanities, then may God help us – added Komšić.

Also, commenting on the appointment of Izetbegović to the head of UKCS, Komšić said that in any other country, someone would have done this, the public and the media would have torn him apart not only into pieces but into atoms.

- I don't know what the motive was for something like this; I have known for a long time that this story was planned, but that it would be done in this way and without any scruples, I did not expect – added Komšić, explaining that nepotism is a cancer of this society.
