Komšić: EU and NATO path of BiH has no alternative, but will we have to cede part of our sovereignty to neighbours

(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić participated today in the Forum of Balkan Integrations 2024 in Podgorica, where he spoke on the topic "Western Balkans and the global crisis - new storms or clear weather?

Speaking at the Forum, Komšić referred to the process of European integration, saying that the question arises whether Bosnia and Herzegovina will have to cede part of its sovereignty during the EU integration process, and not to the European Union, but to one of BiH's neighbouring countries, which is an EU member.

"The moment we find ourselves in a position to start opening and closing chapters, the big question is what will be demanded from Bosnia and Herzegovina to deliver to the European Union, not in terms of delegating part of its sovereignty, but to individual EU member states," said Komšić.

"Will we perhaps have to abandon the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights?

Suddenly, it is being announced that we should not be stubborn in insisting on the implementation of those judgments. I can hardly agree to that, to such things," said Komšić.

He added that double standards are being applied.

"We have the European Commission's Opinion on 14 priorities, and I consider that a historic document for Bosnia and Herzegovina, because it very precisely states what needs to be done. Now that we have entered this phase of opening negotiations, some priorities have simply been abandoned. Those are the double standards," said Komšić.

"But let's be clear, when we talk about the EU and NATO path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as far as I am concerned, they have no alternative," concluded the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina".
