Komšić: Dodik is a finished story in the long run

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić opened the conference in Sarajevo today on the topic of the future of the Western Balkans and its relations with the EU, organized by the Institute of European Democrats.

In a statement to the media before the event, he commented on the current political situation in BiH, and also touched upon the meeting announced for today between HDZ and the opposition from RS.

- We will see if Čović and HDZ, or rather Zagreb, have made a decision to somehow break their strategic partnership with Dodik and SNSD.

From Čović's statements, which he always makes in half-sentences and half-thoughts, one could conclude that he is showing readiness for the current majority to change, meaning that Dodik and everything he is doing is heading towards some kind of deeper and further isolation in relation to the entire situation that he actually produced - said Komšić.

As for the situation in BiH, as he said, Dodik has clearly activated a plan he had prepared earlier, but it is not yielding the expected results.

- There is great resistance even within RS to all the political madness he is launching, hoping that he will manage to get out of the situation he ultimately put himself in, no one pushed him into that situation, he brought himself into it.

Although it may sometimes seem frustrating that our law enforcement institutions cannot reach him, it seems to me that Dodik is a finished story in the long run. We will see how things develop further.

One should not fight fire with gasoline, one must be smart. This is a bit of a longer battle. It would be counterproductive for us on our side to cause people in RS to rally around Dodik.

This is not about RS, nor about Serbs as a people, but only about the political fate of one man, one policy, and one political option.

As long as the people in RS understand this, I think we all have a chance to emerge from this truly difficult crisis in a normal way, and even to start building the country as it should be afterwards.

I do not see any other future for BiH except in the EU, but we must be realistic and say that we are lagging behind. We must work and strive to one day be an equal member of the EU - concluded Komšić in a statement to the media.
