Komšić: The active role of women in any society makes it better

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić sent congratulations on the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day.

March 8 as International Women's Day is a symbol of women's historical and progressive advocacy for the acceptance of the social principle of gender equality as one of the important civilizational pillars of a civic society. At the same time, this day is also an opportunity to remember the enormous contribution of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina to the building of our country, institutions, and society in general. The fact of low representation of women in leadership positions must be changed, not to formally respect the principle of gender equality, but because I deeply believe that the active role of women in any society makes that society better.

The issue of gender equality is not just a women's issue, which women's associations or individuals might deal with. It is equally important for the other gender to fully participate in actively advocating for the principles of gender equality and equity, with the aim of building a society of equality and equal rights for all, regardless of whether they belong to one gender identity or the other as individuals. Only as equal citizens can we make the society and the country we live in better than it currently is.

I congratulate women in BiH and around the world on March 8, with the wish that you are always surrounded by your loved ones, love, and respect.
