(Patria) - The Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS) has become the owner of the most advanced device for performing endoscopic and minimally invasive heart surgeries – a 3D endoscope.
The company LSI Solutions from New York, specialized in the development of high technologies, awarded the scientific and professional work of cardiac surgeon Nermir Granov, his team, and the Sarajevo Clinical Center with this modern device, which is intended to help patients with heart problems continue a higher quality of life, Anadolu reports.
The device, a 3D endoscope, used for performing minimally invasive and endoscopic surgeries, enables patients to undergo the surgical procedure as easily as possible. Endoscopic cardiac surgery involves operations on the open heart or blood vessels of the heart without opening the chest.
Nermir Granov, director of Surgical Disciplines at KCUS, speaking about the mitral valve surgery, explained that they practically entered the heart through a small port and, with the help of the camera, have a sense of the third dimension.
- The credit for successfully performed operations also goes to the surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, and medical professionals starting from the operating room, through intensive care, to the ward and outpatient clinic - said Granov.
Ermina Mujičić, head of the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the KCUS Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery, said that the anesthesiological preparation of a patient undergoing cardiac surgery differs from the anesthesiological preparation of other patients.
- Such patients require extremely extensive preoperative preparation - she explained.
Ilirijana Hadžibećiri Karabdić, a cardiac surgeon at KCUS, said that this device enables them special approaches to heart surgeries and facilitates faster recovery for patients, so that after endoscopic surgery, a patient can go home as early as the fourth day.
Dr. Granov and his team at the Sarajevo Clinical Center emphasize that effort and work do pay off and are recognized.
- To receive a valuable award at the international level, you must be noticed. Colleague Granov, who is the recipient of this award, and the result of which is the endoscopic system with 3D reconstruction, which makes the surgeon's job easier and keeps the patient safe, you have to work for a long time - said Sanko Pandur, acting director of the Discipline for Science and Teaching at KCUS.
Alen Pilav, acting director of KCUS, said that thanks to colleague Granov and Dr. Sanko Pandur, they have initiated many processes.
- Among other things, this nice thing happened to us, we received a donation - he said.
Numerous visits to the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo by cardiologists from around the world have been announced, who will observe and learn how procedures are performed using the modern 3D endoscope.
