Chamber of Sanitary Engineers Has a Solution for Fighting COVID-19

(Patria) - In difficult and uncertain times of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, we had the opportunity to face a regrettable lack of both technology and equipment, as well as personnel needed in the fight against this unknown scourge.

"We are witnessing that the newly created situation is a great challenge for the already limited healthcare staff of the Federation of BiH, cantons, cities, and municipalities, and that we do not have time for improvisation. Therefore, as a legal and every other authority for organizing healthcare and conducting health policies in their area, we call on you to plan the staffing of healthcare capacities with existing, highly educated personnel, namely graduate sanitary engineers or their equivalents in accordance with the Bologna process, in accordance with the law and legal authorizations," stated the Chamber of Sanitary Engineers of FBiH.

Unfortunately, everyone is well aware of the shortage of highly educated personnel at all levels of healthcare, and in this situation, especially epidemiologists.

"Knowing that the mentioned specialization lasts three years, we believe that no level of governance in our country has enough time available to 'wait' for fighters on the newly opened front against COVID-19, but we must focus our forces on existing personnel," emphasize the Chamber, headed by Edib Rizvo.

They note that they are absolutely ready and educated to face all the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in the most professional and responsible manner, and that they are ready to contribute immediately.

"Therefore, we ask you to initiate administrative and other procedures so that all institutions responsible for managing this crisis activate their capacities for engaging graduate sanitary engineers, or their equivalents in accordance with the Bologna process, in the manner and scope that is possible," it is stated.
