Commander Jurković: The situation in Čapljina is better, but...

In accordance with the procedures for engaging helicopters to assist civil structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Armed Forces of BiH dispatched one Mi-8 MTV helicopter in the afternoon hours of August 22, 2017, to assist in extinguishing fires in the municipalities of Čapljina and Čitluk.

In addition to the BiH Armed Forces helicopter, 30 members with accompanying equipment are on the endangered terrain to provide assistance during fire extinguishing in these two municipalities.

Depending on the situation at the fire site, the Armed Forces of BiH will be on standby and ready to continue providing assistance to civil authorities in extinguishing fires in BiH.

- The situation is better than today, but it is not great. Huge areas are covered with pine forest, and the wind is also a problem. All houses in the settlement of Trebižat have been saved. Now the problem is in Hotanj, houses need to be defended. The helicopters of the Armed Forces of BiH are here, but they stopped flying until morning when they will continue - said Mate Jurković, commander of the professional fire brigade of Čapljina, for N1.

The Federal Civil Protection Administration told N1 that the Armed Forces of BiH dispatched two helicopters to help extinguish the fires. One was sent to the area of Čitluk, and the other to the area of Čapljina.
