Column from Sarajevo headed towards Potočari

The first groups of participants of the March of Peace have set off from Sarajevo towards Potočari, writes the BH news agency Patria.

Around 60 people set off from the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday morning for a journey of about 240 kilometers that will last eight days, before the column of people reaches the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica on July 11. New members may join the column.

The March of Peace is a walking tour held as part of the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica and its surroundings, with the aim of honoring the victims of the genocide and reminding of the horrific crimes committed by the forces of the army and police of Republika Srpska, supported by forces from Serbia, against Bosniaks of the "UN Safe Zone" - Srebrenica, in July 1995.

The march is called a protest march because it aims to engage all relevant actors, at the local and international level, for the faster arrest and prosecution of persons responsible for the committed crimes, in order to achieve justice as a prerequisite for building lasting peace and tolerance among the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The column of participants, which is joined by thousands of people from almost all parts of the planet and grows every year, starts from Nezuk (Sapna municipality) and covers a distance of about 100 kilometers over three days to reach Potočari (Srebrenica municipality).

Thousands of people start towards Nezuk days before the departure, from where everyone sets off together towards Potočari three days before the anniversary commemoration.

The March of Peace from Nezuk to Potočari lasts three days, from July 8 to 10. of the year, with as many stages. Each stage is between 25 and 30 kilometers long. Participants pass through the following route from Nezuk to Potočari: Nezuk - Baljkovica - Parlog - Crni Vrh - Snagovo - Liplje - Jošanica - Donja Kamenica - Bakrači - Glodi - Udrč - Cerska - Kaldrmica - Đugum - Mravinjci - Burnice - Kameničko Brdo - Ravni Buljim - Jaglići - Šušnjari - Budak - Potočari (Memorial Center), reports NAP.
