How much do you know about Statehood Day: It should be one of the most sacred moments of a country

Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina will again this year be celebrated only in one part of Bosnia and Herzegovina - in the Federation of BiH, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

It is sad, analysts warn, that citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot feel the beauty of this holiday, which many countries around the world consider one of the most sacred moments in a country's history.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is not tied to any of the three constituent peoples in the country. On the contrary, November 25, back in 1943, was envisioned to be an equally great day for all peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for the Republic of BiH within the Yugoslav federation to be equal, with historical borders dating back to the time of medieval Bosnia.

Statehood Day is an agreed-upon date that can symbolize the time of establishing a country's independence, the beginning of democratic changes, or commemorate a day important to the president or king of that country, or some other date significant for that country.

Most states have a fixed date on which they celebrate Statehood Day, but some countries, like Jamaica, change it every year. For Statehood Day, Jamaicans take the first Monday in August, writes NAP.

Some countries, such as Thailand, take the Statehood Day with each enthronement of a new ruler. Pakistan, for example, has more than one Statehood Day because all are equally important for the founding of the state.

  Governments spend millions on celebrations

And here is how governments around the world mark Statehood Day. More than 100,000 people attend Moscow's Red Square on the day of the celebration of Russia Day, and on that occasion, events are held across the country involving about two million people.

For Turkey's Statehood Day, celebrated on October 29, the government of this country organized a spectacle in Istanbul in 2012, accompanied by 48,000 fireworks, weighing about 20 tons, with fireworks reaching heights of up to 250 meters.

When Great Britain or France mark their Statehood Day, it means hundreds of thousands of people on the streets, big carnivals, and long parades.

  How do Bosnia and Herzegovina's neighbors celebrate?

Bosnia and Herzegovina's immediate neighbors, primarily Serbia and Croatia, also joyfully and with a lot of patriotism mark Statehood Day.

For Serbia's Statehood Day, the First Serbian Uprising is taken, which falls on February 15, and which was directed against the Ottoman Empire.

Statehood Day in Croatia is a holiday celebrated on June 25, the day in 1991 when the Croatian Parliament passed the Constitutional Decision on the Independence and Sovereignty of Croatia.

For the National Holiday of Montenegro, July 13 is taken, following the Berlin Congress of 1878, by which Montenegro was recognized as the 27th independent state in the world.

Statehood Day in Slovenia also falls on June 25, as in Croatia, because on the same day the assemblies of these countries made the decision on independence and sovereignty, writes NAP.
