How much does a civil wedding cost in BiH: Free in Kalinovik, up to 300 KM in Mostar

The fees that brides and grooms must pay to the municipality account when getting married vary, depending on which municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is. Thus, in some municipalities, such as Kalinovik, couples are exempt from fees, while in Mostar they have to pay up to 300 KM, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

According to the legal regulations of our country, a wedding before a registrar, which is the only legally recognized marriage in BiH, must be announced 30 days in advance, the marriage regulations must be thoroughly studied, documentation must be collected which, in addition to personal documents, includes a written confirmation from the registry office that neither of the spouses is already in a legal marriage, and the fee must be paid to the account of the municipality where the couple is getting married.

In places where the population is small and weddings are rare, municipal authorities have exempted couples from monetary fees, or the fee is symbolic, usually between 20 and 50 KM. In this way, the authorities want to encourage young people to enter into marriage more often.

Municipalities that have decided to take such a step include Kalinovik, Vlasenica, Donji Vakuf...

The registrar in Foča will also not charge you for the wedding, with the note that on the bulletin board of the registry office in this municipality it states that there is a possibility of – possibly treating the registrar.

In most municipalities in the Federation of BiH, a wedding before a registrar costs from 50 to 150 KM, depending on whether it is performed during working hours, whether it is in the municipal premises or in a restaurant.

The most expensive wedding can be paid in Mostar, if it is outside the registry office, and such a wedding costs 300 KM.

Registrars in Mostar explain that Mostar is a city with many beautiful places where couples can say the fateful „YES“, and that the number of weddings in the municipal premises was almost interrupted. With the high price, they decided to limit the number of weddings outside the municipal building, but also to make the registrars' work easier, writes NAP.
