Kojović proposes Law on Origin of Assets of Officials in Sarajevo Canton

 

Deputy of Our Party in the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton Predrag Kojović has submitted into procedure a Draft Law on reporting, origin and control of assets of elected officials, holders of executive functions and advisors in Sarajevo Canton, Our Party announced, the Patria news agency reports.

-The idea of a law that would regulate the area of assets of elected and appointed officials has been the subject of a series of discussions in the KS Assembly in recent years. Each time, this proposal received declarative support, but each time certain structures would find alleged legal obstacles for legal regulation of this area, Kojović said.

-After a long wait for the government of Prime Minister Konaković to put to a vote the draft that Konaković submitted while he was still a deputy, we decided to stop waiting, and we sent our proposal of this law into procedure today, which we consider the first prerequisite in the fight for the trust of citizens in politics and the state, he added.

Kojović also said that it is symptomatic - but not surprising - that for SDA, both cantonal and federal laws, which are tools for combating corruption, are not a priority, because they need to face the legacy of the party's decades-long rule.

-Consistent application of the law we propose will empty many official chairs and enable court proceedings against those who have used the trust of voters or their party to gain illegal property benefits. By submitting this proposal into the parliamentary procedure, we show that our focus is not a declarative story about the fight against corruption but concrete legislative action, Kojović concluded, the statement reads.
