Who is seeking the dismissal of Rector Škrijelj?

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The dismissal of the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Rifat Škrijelj, was initiated at the Teaching-Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo, held yesterday at KCUS. 

Turbulence on the rector - Faculty of Medicine - KCUS line did not stop even after the dismissal of Dean Semra Čavaljuga, and the Faculty of Medicine refuses to announce a competition for the election of a new dean. Instead, KCUS Director Sebija Izetbegović, along with her closest associates, has devised a plan to dismiss the rector, according to well-informed sources. 

According to the Law on Higher Education, the rector is dismissed by the Management Board, but for precisely defined reasons that cause damage to the University of Sarajevo, if they do not apply the legal provisions, or carry out activities without the consent of the Management Board, or do not implement the decisions of the Management Board, it is stated, among other things, in Article 154 of the Law. 

Rector Škrijelj did not respond to Patria's calls. His early dismissal was also discussed earlier, when he also refused to speak on the topic. 

We remind you that the amendments to the Law on Higher Education of KS, which were supposed to be on the agenda before the summer holidays, also concerned the change of the teaching base for faculties from the medical group. According to the current law, it is KCUS, and it was requested that the General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš", JU Health Center, and Emergency Services also be teaching bases. Precisely because of such a provision, distinguished doctors who left KCUS automatically lost their jobs at the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo. All such cases ended up in court, and Professor Ismet Gavrankapetanović won a verdict ordering him to be reinstated in the teaching process of the Faculty of Medicine. To date, that decision has not been implemented, and the KS Prosecutor's Office has already opened a case regarding the events at the Faculty of Medicine. KCUS strongly opposes other health institutions also being teaching bases, hence the intention for the early dismissal of the rector. 

The Management Board of UNSA has 11 members, of whom six are appointed by the Senate, four by the KS Government, and one is a student representative. Who Izetbegović had in mind when she said she had a "critical mass" for the rector's dismissal will be shown in the coming period. 

Members of the UNSA Management Board include, in addition to President Murat Ramadanović, Prof. Dr. Jasminka Gradaščević-Sijerčić, Prof. Dr. Dijana Avdić, Prof. Ddr. Lidija Zvačko, Prof. Dr. Abidin Deljanin, Prof. Dr. Kasim Bajrović, Acc. Prof. Dr. Dejan Milošević, Sifet Kukuruz, Sandra Začinović, Dr. Mersiha Slipičević, Haris Zahiragić, and the student representative who does not attend Management Board meetings.
