Who from Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot apply to the U.S. military academy?

The U.S. Embassy has published a call for the selection of six candidates from Bosnia and Herzegovina for enrollment at U.S. military academies (the U.S. Army Academy “West Point” and the Air Force Academy) in the academic class of 2019, starting on June 29, 2015, reports the Patria news agency.

General conditions of the competition are that the candidate is not younger than 17 and not older than 23 on July 1, 2015, that the candidate is not married, is not pregnant, and has no legal obligation to support children, and has an academic grade point average in mathematics (with emphasis on algebra, basics of geometry, trigonometry, differential and integral calculus) and English. Applicants must have at least a very good and excellent average in high school in the mentioned subjects.

Regarding standard academic tests, a passed Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is required by the final application deadline of December 15, 2014.

- A copy of the results is submitted directly to the military academy (the code for West Point Academy and the Air Force Academy is 2924 for SAT/2976 for ACT). All information about taking the SAT test can be found on the SAT website – states the competition.

A passed Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is also required by the final application deadline of December 15, 2014.

It is recommended that all interested candidates register in time for the test date.

Leadership potential: the candidate must possess strong potential for future leadership through:

1) active participation in extracurricular activities

2) participation in school or local athletic competitions3) letters of recommendation from the teaching staff of the high school/college attended by the candidate

Physical fitness test

The physical fitness check will be carried out in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, according to criteria prescribed by the academy (“Candidate Fitness Assessment - CFA”) at the end of November/beginning of December.

Medical examinations and health conditions

All candidates will undergo checks of height and weight standards, and must submit a statement from a certified medical institution that the candidate is mentally and physically healthy and fit for military service, and does not suffer from infectious diseases or have dental problems. Candidates must also sign a statement regarding excessive alcohol and narcotics use.

Tattoos, scars, or body piercings that cover more than ¼ of the visible part of the body or are visible above the collar, will be a disqualifying factor.
