He who has no compassion for the victims of other nations, has none for his own

For twenty years, every time the tragic anniversaries of the Bosnian War remind us of the devastating consequences of the policy Serbia pursued in the 1990s, we are once again faced with the unwillingness of parts of our society to look in the mirror and break once and for all with the way of thinking that made Serbia and the entire region the unhappiest part of Europe.

This unwillingness is always camouflaged in false concern for Serbian victims, as well as all other victims, that Milošević's policy sowed wherever its long and bloody hand reached. Although we constantly say that numbers do not matter and that all victims are equally painful, we cannot escape some facts and we will not be the people we would like to be and what we once might have been, until we admit some painful truths to ourselves and everyone around us.

He who has no empathy for the victims of other nations, has no empathy for the victims of his own nation.

The ability to close one's eyes to the fact that the number of Bosniak civilian victims is many times higher than the victims on other sides, that it is higher than the number of Bosniak soldiers killed, the ability to ignore the pain of the mothers of the Srebrenica victims, ultimately testifies solely to disinterest in anyone's suffering and reduces human lives on all sides to simple numbers, kilograms of human flesh that need to be incorporated into failed and meaningless political concepts.

The attitude towards the Srebrenica tragedy, the genocide committed there, is a litmus test that places us on the right or wrong side in one, never-ending conflict, in the fight to create a civilized, modern, just, and free society.

Therefore, we call on all people who want Serbia to become such a country, to hold a memorial for the Srebrenica victims on Saturday, July 11, at 11 AM, in front of the National Assembly of Serbia, despite the threats from chauvinistic, nationalist, and fascist groups and their media and political sponsors.
