DF USK Cantonal Board: Ruling coalition politicizes MUP and strengthens political parties' influence on police

(Patria) - The Cantonal Board of the Democratic Front of Una-Sana Canton believes that the ruling coalition in this canton (SDP, SDA, NiP, Pomak) is brutally politicizing the MUP of Una-Sana Canton by adopting the flawed Law on Police Officers and the Law on MUP.

According to the law proposed by the Democratic Front, which was not adopted, the police commissioner would be replaced by the Head of the Uniformed Police Sector, and in their absence, by the Head of the Criminal Police, until a new commissioner is appointed.

However, the ruling coalition, guided by its own interests and contrary to the principle of depoliticizing the MUP (advocated by DF), adopted a Law by which politics has a primary influence on the selection of police officers.

According to the new and adopted Law proposed by the minister from SDP, instead of a commissioner, the position of Director of Police of USK was established, as well as the position of Deputy Director of Police, who is directly appointed by the Government, not an independent board.

According to the same Law, the deputy director of police can remain in the position until the director is appointed, without a time limit. In this way, the independent board is bypassed and the appointment is made by the Government, i.e., the minister, and consequently by a specific political party.

The Democratic Front strongly opposes such practices, advocates for the depoliticization of the MUP and for the work of institutions in the interest of all citizens, not political parties.
