Who will be in the BiH Constitutional Court: A call for applications for two judges, the procedure should be completed by May

(Patria) - The working group for the procedure of electing two judges of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, elected by the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, held its constitutive session today.

Mladen Bošković (HDZ BiH), Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federation of BiH and member of the Working Group, stated that they have decided to issue a public call for the election of two judges of the Constitutional Court of BiH, elected by the House of Representatives of the Federation of BiH.

The working group was confirmed at the previous session of this house, and it consists of Bošković, Senad Subašić (SDP BiH), Irfan Durić (NES), Mustafa Šabić, and Joko Radić.

"After the publication in the Official Gazette, we contacted the judges, as one comes from Sarajevo and one from Posavina, and agreed on a date. Today we held the constitutive session and made the decision to issue a public call for the election of two judges of the Constitutional Court of BiH," said Bošković.

Judge Mirsad Ćeman's mandate expired on December 1, 2025, as he turned 70, while judge Valerija Galić's mandate expires in mid-October this year when she turns 70.

"We are late for the first one, while we have slightly accelerated the situation for the second one. I am sure that in this convocation we will elect four judges of the Constitutional Court of BiH, which is extremely important considering the situation of the Constitutional Court of BiH, which has been without judges from the RS for a long time," stated Bošković.

The application period will last 15 days from the publication in the newspapers, with an additional seven-day period for applications arriving by mail.

"I hope that everything will be completed by the end of March, and a realistic deadline for completing the entire procedure is by May. What will happen in the House of Representatives, I don't know," Bošković said.

As previously reported by Istraga.ba, Dženeta Omerdić, advisor to the member of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović, is expected to apply for the position of judge of the Constitutional Court of BiH.

Earlier, Marin Vukoja, close to HDZ BiH, and judge Larisa Velić, former dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Zenica, were elected to the Constitutional Court of BiH.

For years, the entity of RS has refused to fill two positions for constitutional judges in the Constitutional Court of BiH.
