Klas purchases 1,000 tons of raspberries from BiH producers

Bosnia and Herzegovina's food industry Klas d.d. Sarajevo will purchase 1,000 tons of raspberries from domestic cooperatives this year, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Raspberries arrive daily from the areas of Bosanska Krajina, Kiseljak, Visoko, Donji Vakuf and Gornji Vakuf, Busovača, Vitez, Travnik, Novi Travnik, Bugojno, the surroundings of Sarajevo, and other parts of BiH. 

After last year's purchase project concluded to the satisfaction of producers, the number of cooperatives has increased to 800 this year. These days, the peak of the season is expected to bring the largest influx of raspberries. 

- The purchase is proceeding according to plan. The weather forecast is in our favor. Payment is made immediately upon receipt of the crop in the cold storage. The quality of the raspberries is excellent. Thanks to Klas and the project developed 15 years ago, today in Bosnia and Herzegovina we have a serious approach to growing this highly valued fruit on the world market. The overall potential is far greater, and we will work on expanding capacity. This year we increased the purchase volume by 50% - said Esad Babić, head of the raspberry, berry, and forest fruit purchase sector at Klas d.d. Sarajevo. 

The capacity of Klas's cold storage facility in Blažuj near Sarajevo is over 1,000 tons. Last year, 665 tons of raspberries were purchased, and almost the entire purchase was exported to the German, Turkish, Japanese, French, and Scandinavian markets, receiving top marks for the excellent quality of Klas's raspberries.
