Bayram prayer performed at Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo

(Patria) - A large number of believers performed the Bayram prayer this morning at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo, where the central Bayram celebration of the Islamic Community (IZ) in Bosnia and Herzegovina was also held.

The Bayram prayer at the Begova Mosque was led by, and the sermon delivered by, the Rais al-Ulama of the Islamic Community, Husein-ef. Kavazović.

„In our time, we must all sacrifice something, like Ibrahim (peace be upon him), in order to establish the values on which we will build our lives and the lives of our community. The divisions and isolation we are witnessing now will not save us. They only increase selfishness, which further opens abysses of fear and intolerance among us.

We must break free from the vicious cycle of our delusions that others are more important than ourselves,” the Rais al-Ulama Kavazović stated in his sermon, among other things.

The Rais al-Ulama also emphasized that „it is impossible to bring our ship into a calm harbor on a turbulent sea without joint effort, without giving to others and accepting from others, without establishing justice that will ensure equality and respect for all, especially for the weakest among us.“

„It has long been time to learn an important lesson about the land we live in: there will be no peace if alliances are made against each other, because such alliances will only increase suffering and divisions. Only if we all stick together can we benefit,” the Rais al-Ulama emphasized in his address to the gathered believers.

A relevant message in the pre-Bayram program was delivered to the gathered believers by Mr. Dževad Pleh, director of the Gazi Husrev-beg Madrasa in Sarajevo.

„As our spiritual tradition teaches us, the holy valley of Mecca and the first house of God built for our worship date back to Adam's descent to earth. Without a doubt, Ibrahim (peace be upon him), by God's inspiration, settled in the desolate valley of Mecca. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) showed his readiness for sacrifice, and he was a friend of Allah. By valuing the narratives about Ibrahim and his role in establishing Tawhid, Islamic scholars hold the view that he is the renewer of faith in God. After testing his obedience, God made Ibrahim a role model in faith,” Pleh said, among other things.

Believers expressed joy over the arrival of one of the greatest holidays, emphasizing that they will share the joy of this day with their families and friends.

Bayram prayer was also performed in mosques throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
