Klačar: Referendum result suits both the government and the opposition

(Patria) - Executive Director of the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) Bojan Klačar believes that the outcome of the referendum in Serbia is wrongly interpreted solely along party lines, because it was not a vote on parties, and assesses that the results of this citizen vote in a way suit both the government and the opposition.

As he told Večernje novosti, the ruling coalition is satisfied because, in complex circumstances of the corona pandemic and with low campaign spending in terms of resources and energy, the "yes" result was relatively convincing, reports danas.rs.

On the other hand, the opposition can be satisfied because, with a very weak campaign, it obtained a figure it "can hold onto", which is that 40 percent of those who voted cast a "no" vote.

Klačar interprets the fact that Belgrade mostly voted against constitutional changes as a consequence of voting based on two grounds: either they were dissatisfied with the solutions themselves, or they voted against because those solutions were proposed by the Assembly, which has no opposition.
