KJKP "Vodovod i kanalizacija" hires 94 workers for one year

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Sarajevo Canton Government at today's continuation of the 111th regular session considered and took note of the Information on the request of KJKP “Vodovod i kanalizacija” d.o.o. Sarajevo for granting consent for the temporary engagement of workers for the implementation of the Project for detection, leakage and reduction of non-revenue water in Sarajevo Canton.

Given that in recent days information appeared in the media about the employment of 94 new workers in this public company, members of the Government, in order to properly inform the public, specified and clarified within this agenda item that it is not about new employment of the mentioned number of people, but about the temporary engagement of 94 of them for one year, which is the deadline for detecting faults and non-revenue water in Sarajevo Canton.

- These are people who will work at night monitoring the entire water supply network, i.e., turning water on and off, detecting faults and all other changes on it within the given deadline, for the fulfillment of which the mentioned number of people is temporarily engaged. All of them, together with the consultant, will do continuous field work. It is estimated that these activities organized through KJKP 'Vodovod i kanalizacija' will cost much less than 1,600,000 KM, which was originally planned, even with the engagement of the mentioned number of people, and this was the key reason for this approach to solving the issue of detection on the water supply network. An additional reason is that all purchased equipment for fault detection remains the property of this company. The implementation of this project is a prerequisite for the implementation of the EBRD loan. For now, there is no plan to hire any of these people permanently, i.e., for an indefinite period - explained the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Elmedin Konaković.

He also emphasized that the Sarajevo Canton Government takes care of the previously adopted moratorium on employment, because its effects are visible both through the spending of budget funds for this purpose and in the reduction of the number of employees in the utility sector, where the current number of employees is smaller by about 600 people.

As stated by the Minister of Public Utilities and Infrastructure, Senad Hasanspahić, this is a temporary employment mainly of plumbers, toolmakers, handlers, excavator operators, technicians for water flow measurement, and among them four engineers.

At today's session, a conclusion was adopted on extending cooperation with consultant Nedim Šečić until the end of this year, who will perform tasks on the development of a study for reducing non-revenue water and coordinate the work of the Team for fault detection on the water supply network in the Canton area, within which the mentioned number of people will work temporarily.
