At least three people have been killed and more than 20 injured in a magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck a rural part of Xinjiang province in far western China on Friday, Chinese officials confirmed, reports the Patria news agency.
Many traditional houses in the area, mostly inhabited by ethnic Uyghurs, collapsed in the earthquake recorded about 160 kilometres northwest of the southern city of Hotan. The earthquake hit the area early in the morning.
-We currently have three dead and over 20 injured, the emergency services said.
