A firing squad executed the deputy North Korean prime minister after he dared to express dissatisfaction with Kim Jong Un's policies, South Korean media reported on Wednesday, citing the Patria News Agency.
The news was first published by the Yonhap news agency, citing an unnamed source according to whom the 63-year-old Choe Yong Gon was executed in a series of purges that have seemingly been consistently occurring since Kim Jong Un took power in 2011.
The deputy prime minister was executed because he expressed disagreements with forestry policy in May, the source stated. The South Korean Ministry of Unification, which maintains diplomatic ties with North Korea, told Reuters that Choe had not been seen in public for about eight months and that they are closely monitoring the situation.
Kim Jong Un often orders the execution of disobedient high-ranking officials, including the execution of the defense chief by anti-aircraft gun in May and a high-ranking member of the Workers' Party last September.
