North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has ordered his border units to be ready for combat, the official North Korean agency reported on Friday after South Korea fired a dozen shells into North Korean territory on Thursday, reports the Patria news agency.
"Kim Jong-Un has ordered the supreme commander of the Korean People's Army that from Friday 10 AM CET (5 PM local time), mixed units on the border should be on alert to be fully ready for combat and to carry out surprise operations," KCNA reported, as cited by AFP.
North Korea has requested an emergency session of the UN Security Council to discuss joint US-South Korean military exercises, the North Korean delegation reported on Thursday.
The Permanent Representative of North Korea to the UN, Ja Song Nam, requested this in a letter sent to the council on Wednesday, one day before the armed incident on the border involving Pyongyang and Seoul.
"If the Security Council ignores the just request of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to discuss the joint US military exercise, it will mean that it is abandoning its primary task of preserving world peace and security and is becoming a political tool," wrote Ambassador Ja Song Nam.
