Kilometer-long queues at Šćepan Polje border crossing, drivers waiting over two hours to cross

The Šćepan Polje border crossing, between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, has been almost blocked since Saturday afternoon. Kilometer-long queues at the entrance to BiH, waiting over two hours to cross the border, writes Patria.

Hundreds of tourists are returning to BiH from Montenegro. Montenegrin beaches are increasingly attractive to guests from BiH. Primarily due to lower prices compared to those in Croatia. There are also a large number of cars with foreign license plates in the queue.

Some are here for the first time, while for some, Šćepan Polje has been causing headaches for years, which is one of the complaints of BiH tourists going to Montenegro.

The Šćepan Polje border crossing is one of the busiest crossings between BiH and Montenegro. There are several other crossings between the two countries, but drivers most often choose this one, considering that the distance between Sarajevo and Podgorica is shortest this way, about 230 kilometers. Estimates suggest that about half a million passengers and 185,000 vehicles cross this crossing annually.

The border crossing is not the only sore point on the busiest road between BiH and Montenegro. The section of the road from Plužine in Montenegro to Foča in Bosnia and Herzegovina is extremely critical. Especially the section passing through BiH. Some call this section of the road the "road of death". Dozens of tourists have lost their lives in traffic accidents on this part of the road, which has been awaiting reconstruction for years. The road reconstruction is being blocked by inter-party conflicts in Republika Srpska, writes Patria.
