Kickboxer Velagić banned for doping

The Anti-Doping Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina conducted a doping test at the national kickboxing championship held in Bihać and detected the presence of substances from the 2014 Prohibited List - ephedrine - in the sample of kickboxer Ermin Velagić, reports the Patria News Agency. He has been banned from all competitions in the country and abroad for a period of two years.

Furthermore, if the athlete commits the same anti-doping rule violation again within the next five years, they will be banned from all competitions in the country and abroad for five years without the right to appeal.

The aforementioned athlete has also been disqualified from the national championship and stripped of his medal. Ermin Velagić's coach received a reprimand.

To date, the Anti-Doping Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has recorded 8 cases of anti-doping rule violations:

1. Samed Osmanović, kickboxing, tested positive for boldenone;
2. Nedim Fišić, weightlifting, metandienone;
3. Edin Muslić, karate, marijuana;
4. Admir Ahmetašević, handball, amphetamine;
5. Caba Nadj, Serbia, weightlifting, metandienone;
6. Olivera Jurić, weightlifter, anabolic steroid;
7. Elmedin Kikanović, basketball, methylhexanamine;
8. Stevo Zolak, boxing, (refusal of doping control), and two more cases are pending.

Reprimands have been issued to 22 athletes for failing to meet their obligations to the Anti-Doping Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with athletes from athletics, boxing, weightlifting, wrestling, karate, skiing, shooting, and tennis.

The Anti-Doping Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue its uncompromising fight against doping in sports in order to protect the health and educate athletes, prevent cheating in sports, and fulfill Bosnia and Herzegovina's obligations under international conventions and the World Anti-Doping Code.
