Kerry wrote to Lagumdžija: US will stand by the people of BiH during recovery

Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Zlatko Lagumdžija, received a letter from the United States Secretary of State John Kerry, it was announced, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Secretary of State Kerry thanked Lagumdžija for the previously sent letter with information about the challenges our country is facing after the catastrophic floods.

Kerry reminded that the Government of the United States of America has allocated $2.7 million in emergency aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina to cope with the floods. The aid included boats, water pumps, water purification systems, basic humanitarian supplies, food assistance, and professional psychological support for displaced persons.

Furthermore, the United States sent a demining team to our country, which, together with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Centre (BHMAC), worked on identifying and destroying mines. It is also reminded that the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Sarajevo, Nicholas M. Hill, announced that the US will provide an additional $10 million in aid to BiH.

At the end of the letter, Kerry emphasized that the United States will stand by the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina during this difficult period of recovery and expressed hope that the authorities in BiH, like the brave citizens of BiH about whom Dr. Lagumdžija spoke in his letter, will rise above ethnic and political barriers and lead the country forward on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration, reports NAP.
