Kerry: We must remember the victims of Srebrenica every day

US Secretary of State John Kerry made a statement on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica. The Patria News Agency fully conveys his statement.

- Today we mark 20 years since 8,000 people were killed in the mountains of Eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The truth about an unreasonable crime against humanity – about body parts piled up in mass graves – shocked the conscience of the world. This anniversary is a powerful reminder of the need to confront all forms of evil and stand up for human rights and dignity.

Those who committed this massacre must be brought to justice. And we must remember the victims of Srebrenica and all victims of the war, not only today, but every day.

The United States is and will remain an unwavering partner to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina – providing support in building security through the Dayton Peace Agreement, as well as economic and technical advisory assistance on its path from conflict to recovery and development.

Our goal is to support the continued progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards stability and prosperity in a region where citizens can live as neighbours in peace and with respect for the rights of all.

By remembering the Srebrenica genocide, we honour the victims by reaffirming our firm intention to ensure that tragedies like this never happen again.
