KCUS Loses Another Respected Doctor: Prof. Dr. Mirsad Kacila Requests Contract Termination

Respected and world-renowned Prof. Dr. Mirsad Kacila, Head of the Institute for Heart Diseases at KCUS, has submitted a request to terminate his employment contract with the University Clinical Center Sarajevo, Patria has learned.

Dr. Kacila is yet another in a series of respected doctors leaving KCUS. As our sources reveal, Dr. Kacila submitted the request for contract termination on his own initiative, but it is evident that he was "forced" into this move because he did not agree with some actions of the current management headed by Sebija Izetbegović.

Since the Heart Center at the Sarajevo Clinical Center began operating, Dr. Kacila, along with his expert teams, has achieved significant success in cardiac surgery and invasive diagnostics.

Mirsad Kacila was born in 1965. He obtained his doctorate in Pisa, Italy, and worked in Germany.

The danger of KCUS losing doctors is highlighted by the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing an epidemic rise in cardiovascular diseases, among the highest in European countries.

Data shows that in the last fifty years in BiH, there has been a threefold increase in cardiovascular diseases, with an incidence of 15,000 affected per 100,000 inhabitants, and unfortunately, heart attacks are affecting thirty-year-olds, and even younger individuals.

The Clinic for Cardiac Surgery within the Heart Institute of KCU Sarajevo annually performed about 700 heart interventions, of which 350 were open-heart surgeries, and the rest were pacemaker and defibrillator implantations.

In addition to surgical heart interventions and electrostimulation, 1,300 to 1,400 heart catheterizations were performed with or without stent implantations, at sites of coronary artery blockages.
