KCUS lacks reagents: Three-year-old child advised to get private test after tick bite!

During the summer period, tick bites are common, as people spend more time in nature, and thus a large number of bites have been registered in Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes the Patria news agency.

People are often unaware of the danger that can arise from a tick bite, and the careless are threatened by bacteria and viruses. Failure to treat leads to changes in the nerves, but even those who seek help in Sarajevo will not be able to get it, because the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo has no reagents!?

Thus, recently, even a three-year-old child, who was bitten by an infected tick and whose initial tests showed he was positive for Lyme disease, was sent back from the Clinic for Infectious Diseases.

This three-year-old child urgently needed a follow-up test after undergoing antibiotic therapy to determine further treatment, but the disappointed parents were instructed to do it privately, because the KCUS has no reagents!

- We were shocked, even though they told us they would refund the costs. That test costs 150 KM, and what if someone is not in a position to do that test at that moment. The story is particularly alarming because it concerns a three-year-old child, so is it possible that our child cannot get adequate care even though we regularly pay health insurance - the parents of the boy bitten by an infected tick told Patria.

We also requested an official explanation from KCUS as to how it is possible that there are no reagents, since when they have been missing, and when they will be procured, but we did not receive a response by the time of publishing this text.

Sebija Izetbegović, director of KCUS, apparently does not consider it important to explain to the citizens what is happening at KCUS.

In her performance of this significant function so far, she has been remembered for the dismissals of some of the excellent staff at KCUS and the fact that doctors who were considered the greatest experts in their departments left the Clinic. Under pressure and unwilling to blindly carry out the orders of Dr. Izetbegović, they resigned and left for other institutions, as well as abroad.
