KCUS Lacks Sufficient Capacity: Institute of Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine UNSA to Perform Pathohistological Analyses

(Patria) - At the initiative of the Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton, the Clinical Center and the Faculty of Medicine UNSA signed a Cooperation Agreement, within which the Faculty of Medicine, through its Institute of Pathology, will provide assistance so that citizens wait shorter periods for pathohistological findings.

The initiative was launched based on a significantly increased number of requests for pathohistological findings, which has overloaded the capacities of the Clinical Center where analyses are performed for citizens from the KS area as well as co-founding cantons.

According to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Amina Valjevac, the Faculty of Medicine will fully make its capacities available so that citizens receive the necessary findings as soon as possible.

„Considering the importance of timely diagnostics, we gladly responded to the Ministry's initiative. The Faculty of Medicine has recently acquired numerous diagnostic devices and modernized the capacities of the Institute of Pathology, with which we can respond to this request from citizens and the Ministry. We have good cooperation with the Clinical Center, and through activities like this, we will contribute to ensuring higher quality and more efficient provision of health services in the field of pathohistological activity“ – said Prof. Valjevac.

The Deputy Acting General Director of KCUS, Prof. Dr. Sabina Prevljak, emphasized that this institution gladly accepts the initiative of the KS Ministry of Health, and that this is a positive example where, through joint activities of multiple institutions, we can do a lot to improve the quality of health services.

„Unfortunately, statistical data show that the number of patients with various types of malignancies is increasing, both in the world and in our country. Timely and adequate diagnostics are the basis from which we start treatment, and dictate the course and often the outcome of treatment. The Clinical Center is always available to our citizens with all available capacities. Sometimes our capacities are not sufficient to meet the extremely large number of requests, and any help and support in this regard is of great importance. We are pleased that through this cooperation we will enable citizens to get their findings sooner, thereby easing their daily fears and struggles they are going through“ – said Prof. Dr. Prevljak.

The signing of this significant Agreement was also attended by the KS Minister of Health, Dr. Enis Hasanović, who stated that the challenges facing the KS health system are very demanding, but that the Ministry is dedicated to overcoming the accumulated problems.

„By signing the Agreement today, we will not solve all problems, but we will significantly relieve KCUS and significantly reduce long waiting lists for pathohistological analyses. Through joint and synchronized work of all health institutions, we can make huge progress, for the benefit of all citizens. The Ministry is dedicated to connecting health institutions and finding the most efficient solutions. We can solve a large number of problems exclusively together, because each health institution has a role without which the system simply cannot function. We strive to utilize all available capacities in the best possible way“ – emphasized Minister Hasanović.
