KCUS: No one died from leptospirosis at the Infectious Diseases Clinic

(Patria) - The University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS) issued a public statement regarding, as they state, inaccurate information concerning cases of leptospirosis infection.

KCUS emphasized that no deaths caused by this infectious disease have been recorded at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases.

"In order to prevent the spread of fear and panic among citizens, we inform the public that no one has died from leptospirosis at the KCUS Clinic for Infectious Diseases," the statement reads.

It was also highlighted that KCUS regularly informs the Public Health Institute of Sarajevo Canton about the number of tested, confirmed, examined, and hospitalized patients in accordance with current regulations.

The healthcare institution appealed to the media to not publish unverified information that could cause unnecessary public anxiety, in the public interest.

"We ask the media not to publish unverified information, in the best interest of the citizens," KCUS concluded in its statement.

KCUS's reaction followed the publication by the former director of this healthcare institution and current representative in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, Sebija Izetbegović, who publicly claimed the death of a healthcare worker due to leptospirosis infection, publishing part of the findings, and criticized institutions for delays in informing the public and the lack of preventive measures. However, she did not state that the patient died at the Infectious Diseases Clinic.
