KCUS: Quick reaction by doctors saves two-year-old boy's arm

(Patria) - At the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic of the KCUS, a two-year-old boy M.K., referred from the "Srbija" hospital in East Sarajevo, was successfully operated on for a severe injury to his right elbow with a lesion of the blood vessel responsible for the nourishment and circulation of the entire arm.

Upon admission to the University Clinical Center Sarajevo, a multidisciplinary team of doctors was formed, who performed emergency diagnostics and then a complex surgical procedure.

According to members of the surgical team, prim. dr. Mehmed Jamakosmanović and prim. dr. Edin Kulenović, a quick reaction was crucial, as any delay would have led to amputation of the arm.

- Through the joint efforts of orthopedists, vascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, instrument nurses, and other medical staff, we successfully completed the operation, and the postoperative course is going excellently.

The radiologist colleagues did an excellent diagnostic job, after which we were able to begin surgical treatment.

Circulation has been restored, the fracture has been stabilized, the arm is functional, and we hope for the best outcome - said Dr. Jamakosmanović and Dr. Kulenović.

The boy's parents expressed gratitude to the doctors and medical staff of the KCUS who made great efforts to save their child's arm and enable him to continue with a normal life.

- Thank you all for the quick reactions, from the nurses at admission to the doctors. We are especially grateful to Dr. Kulenović, who recognized the seriousness of the situation and called his colleague Jamakosmanović, who was on call.

Everything was done very quickly so that our son could undergo surgery without delay. The recovery is going well, and we will soon go home.

We are glad that our child has the opportunity to continue with a normal life, education, and all the life events that lie ahead - said the boy's parents.
