KCUS to receive Lokomat following initiative by Kristić and Kapo, while Gavrankapetanović-Smailbegović sought the same device for two years

(Patria) - Doctor Fatima Gavrankapetanović-Smailbegović and SBiH representative in the KS Assembly has been submitting initiatives for two years, and has also submitted amendments to the Sarajevo Canton Budget for 2024 to secure the procurement of the Lokomat device for the UNSA Clinical Center. However, it seems her initiative did not pass solely because she is not part of the ruling majority.

Because, how else to explain that the same initiative was submitted by representatives Danijela Kristić (NIP) and Belma Kapo (SDP) and that the KS Minister of Health Enis Hasanović (SDP) acted upon it, and they announced it on social media.

"In order to create conditions for the procurement of the device, we submitted an amendment to the budget of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, which would provide funds for the urgent procurement of a Lokomat for the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo. During a visit to the Clinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at KCUS, in conversation with the head of the clinic, we received information about the great need for this device, especially for the youngest. Our citizens with Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's disease, people who have had a stroke, spinal cord or brain injuries, can regain the function of their lower extremities much faster with this device.
The combined Lokomat, intended for both children and adults, is an investment in the lives of these people. We want Sarajevo to have innovative, modern methods of neurorehabilitation. Thank you to the Minister of Health Enis Hasanović for his continuous support in improving public health," Kapo stated on Facebook.

Representative Gavrankapetanović-Smailbegović also emphasized that this is the best news, but also reminded how long she has been fighting for this device.

"The best news in 2025 is that patients in the Federation will finally get the Lokomat device, for which I have been fighting for two years and for which I have submitted countless initiatives and amendments to last year's budget. It doesn't matter who is photographed, who engages in populism, our patients are the most important. In BiH, copyrights are clearly not sufficiently protected," she stated in her post.
