Kavalec congratulates HJPC leadership

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - On the occasion of the election of the new leadership of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJPC BiH), Ambassador Kathleen Kavalec, Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH (Mission), congratulates the newly elected HJPC BiH President Halil Lagumdžija, as well as the newly elected Vice-Presidents Sanela Gorunović-Butigan and Biljana Simeunović.

“The Mission supports the HJPC BiH as a key institution whose mandate is to ensure the independence, impartiality, and professionalism of BiH’s judiciary. The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the body responsible not only for appointing judges and prosecutors, but also for creating, evaluating, and disseminating judicial policy in BiH, plays a key role in restoring public trust in judicial institutions, and must be a leader in judicial reforms.”

Ambassador Kavalec emphasized that the HJPC should serve as an example, adhering to the highest ethical standards in its work on strengthening appointment procedures and disciplinary proceedings.

“The OSCE Mission to BiH remains a close partner of the HJPC and looks forward to cooperating with the newly elected leadership in all these processes aimed at strengthening the integrity, transparency, and accountability of BiH’s judiciary,” Kavalec stressed.
