(Patria) – Catholics celebrate Good Friday today, the Christian commemoration of Jesus' suffering and death. It is celebrated on the Friday before Easter.
Around the world, usually in the morning hours, the faithful gather in churches, chapels and other places to devoutly pray the Stations of the Cross. In the afternoon hours, usually at 3 p.m. when Jesus breathed his last on the cross, the faithful gather in churches to celebrate the Good Friday liturgy.
For Catholics, fasting is obligatory on Good Friday for all persons aged 18 to 60, and for all Catholics over the age of 14, abstinence from meat is also obligatory. Abstinence means that no meat is eaten during the day, while fasting means that a person eats one full meal and two smaller meals during the day.
On Good Friday, everything is quiet because nothing is done outside.
