Katica appeals to drivers due to traffic jams: Do not enter intersections with your car if they are congested

(Patria) - Due to evident traffic jams in the city, the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton warns drivers to adhere to the provisions of the Law on the Basics of Traffic Safety on Roads in BiH and not to endanger other traffic participants with their behavior.

They particularly draw attention to drivers' actions when entering intersections with their vehicles. It is noticeable that, due to heavy congestion, an increasing number of drivers enter congested intersections with their vehicles, further slowing down traffic flow, which is also prohibited and punishable under the provisions of the Law on the Basics of Traffic Safety.

The Minister of Interior of Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica, called on drivers to comply with legal provisions, thereby contributing to improved safety and smoother traffic flow in Sarajevo Canton.

"We draw drivers' attention that when turning and entering an intersection, they may do so only after ensuring that the intersection is not congested and that their action in traffic does not block traffic flow from other directions in the intersection."

Article 54 of the Law on the Basics of Traffic Safety on Roads in BiH reads:

"A driver who is allowed to enter an intersection by a traffic light signal must not enter the intersection with their vehicle if traffic density is such that they would obviously have to stop the vehicle in the intersection and thus, upon a change of the light signal, obstruct or prevent traffic of vehicles coming from side roads."

Minister Katica announced that police officers will warn such drivers in the coming period, and in more serious cases, will also record them for issuing misdemeanor warrants. Additionally, police officers of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton will increase their presence at key intersections and, as before, carry out physical traffic regulation as needed.
