Qatar rejects series of demands: No closure of Al Jazeera

Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al Thani said today that Qatar will reject a series of demands submitted to Doha by several Arab states.

He added that the goal of that ultimatum was not the fight against terrorism, but rather the reduction of Qatar's sovereignty. Al Thani, addressing journalists in Rome, said that Doha remains ready to sit down and discuss the grievances of its Arab neighbors.

- The list of demands will be rejected, it will not be accepted. We are ready to engage in dialogue, but under appropriate conditions - said the Qatari foreign minister.

Al Thani said that Qatar will not close the Turkish military base in that country nor shut down the satellite channel "Al Jazeera", as demanded by the Arab states.
