Kasumović: We want to make Zenica a city with a more pleasant life

STOCKHOLM, (Patria) - Mayor of Zenica Fuad Kasumović is participating in the first conference of mayors of the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe on the topic of the Green Cities Programme, held from June 11 to 13 in Stockholm. The aim of the conference is to present investments in the programme, which includes strategic planning, technical assistance, donor support with EBRD financing, all with the goal of helping selected cities invest in priority infrastructure projects that contribute to environmental protection. 

The City of Zenica is one of eight cities that will, in the coming year, with technical assistance from the EBRD, develop a Green Cities Action Plan, which will systematically, as Mayor Kasumović has announced, identify priority infrastructure projects with indicative investments and sources of financing. 

In the coming period, the EBRD will increase financing for Green Cities projects in the sectors of district heating, urban transport and public lighting, water, wastewater treatment, and energy efficiency in buildings by 40%.

- Zenica is slowly but surely, as I promised, taking its European path. It is an honor and a pleasure for me as mayor that our wishes and efforts to improve living conditions in Zenica through quality projects have been recognized by European institutions, which are increasingly including our city in high-quality European projects. As mayor, I expect a lot from these projects, primarily to provide the citizens of Zenica with a more pleasant life.

There is a possibility that Zenica will solve the problem of transport in city and suburban traffic through these projects. One of our priorities is to reduce pollution in the city by using electric buses - said Fuad Kasumović, Mayor of Zenica.

Zenica, which is represented at the gathering in Stockholm by Mayor Kasumović and the Head of the Local Economic Development Sector, Amra Mehmedić, is the only city from Bosnia and Herzegovina participating in this project, given that Banja Luka has candidate status. The conference in the Swedish and European metropolis is attended by high-ranking EBRD officials, mayors of Sofia, Tirana, Priština, Podgorica, Kyiv, Banja Luka, Zenica, and many other high-ranking officials.
