Karović: Appointing Lukač would be a show of force, and everything would escalate into a major court case!

The FBiH Government, as well as the FBiH Parliament, are closely following and awaiting news from the Independent Board of the FBiH Police, which has proposed Dragan Lukač as the new/old Director of the Federal Police Administration, writes the Patria News Agency.

This proposal was rejected at a Government session, after the Security Commission of the FBiH Parliament gave its opinion that the selection of the FUP Director should have been conducted according to the new Law on Internal Affairs. However, none of the decisions are binding, so the Independent Board, headed by Dragan Lukač's close associate Sead Selman, can appoint Lukač despite all warnings and decisions.

The situation was further complicated by the fact that Sead Selman, according to the new law, cannot even be a member of the Independent Board because he is in a conflict of interest. In this regard, his dismissal will be initiated, as well as that of other members who, according to the law, cannot perform the duties of a member of the Independent Board.

Midhat Karović, President of the Security Commission of the FBiH Parliament, told Patria that in the opinion of the Security Commission of the Federal Parliament, they informed the Legislative Commission that it, as a competent commission, should immediately take measures to dissolve the members of the Independent Board who are in a conflict of interest and who have violated their statute.

- We also informed the Parliament that it should immediately initiate the procedure for changing the members of the Independent Board, especially those in a conflict of interest, such as the President of the Independent Board, Sead Selman. In two days, the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament will also be formed, and then the parliamentary assembly will be at full capacity, and we are working. These are all actions that must be completed, and it is necessary for everyone to start doing their part – says Karović.

He notes that appointing Lukač would be absurd, as he officially retires in April this year.

- What I heard from the media that Mr. Selman said that they will think about it and see what the Independent Board will do, I think it is extremely inappropriate for them to take such a step. Especially since the FUP is functioning normally, because even if the Deputy Director is not appointed as acting director, they operate according to the statute – says Karović.

The only motive and obligation of the Security Commission was to break the vacuum, because everything was happening behind their backs, Karović points out.

- We reacted urgently, and it is clear that life has not stopped, everything is proceeding normally. If, however, Lukač is appointed, it will escalate into a court case and will not make sense, and I, as a person, think that colleague Selman should not get involved in this matter, because it would truly be a demonstration of some force and power – added Karović.
