Karlovac faces unprecedented floods

According to the forecast of Hrvatske vode, heavy rainfall is expected to cause rivers to overflow, and floods in Karlovac could reach the level of those in September last year, which were unprecedented until then, causing significant material damage to communal infrastructure and the property of hundreds of families, the office of the Mayor of Karlovac announced to the media on behalf of the Civil Protection Headquarters, reports the Patria News Agency.

During the night, the Headquarters decided to undertake a series of measures, including construction work, to reduce the threat from floodwaters, and called on citizens who were affected by floods last year to start moving their material possessions from basements, ground floors, and yards.

At an emergency session of the Civil Protection Headquarters held last night at the Firefighting Center, emergency services were joined by Mayor Damir Jelić and representatives of Hrvatske vode, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, the city Red Cross, all city utility companies, and city districts and local committees.

Endangered parts of the city have been supplied with sandbags and materials for defending individual buildings and constructing temporary embankments, and meetings will be held during the morning in the areas of endangered local committees and city districts, writes Index.
