Karađoz-begova medresa bids farewell to its 380th generation of graduates with a ceremonial academy

(Patria) - With a ceremonial academy held in the hall of the University-Sports-Recreational Center "Midhad Hujdur Hujka", Karađoz-begova medresa from Mostar today bid farewell to its 380th generation of graduates.

The final roll call of 46 graduates of this school was conducted by their homeroom teachers – kura hafiz Armin Abaza, Merjem Muratović Šuta, and Smajo Čolaković.


In this way, the oldest educational institution in Herzegovina once again strongly confirmed the continuity of quality education.

– This year we are also marking a jubilee, 30 years since the reactivation of our school, with the aim of raising the quality and level of upbringing and education, so that our youth have the opportunity to successfully continue their schooling and professional careers – emphasized the director of the Medresa, hafiz Aid-ef. Tulek.

This year's generation of graduates is not a large generation, which was reflected in the quality of work during their schooling.

– They achieved notable results in curricular and extracurricular activities, demonstrated knowledge and skills at various competitions, starting from the school, cantonal, and level of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH, in knowledge of Bosnian and English, as well as in sports competitions – added Director Tulek.

At the ceremonial academy, he also spoke about the specifics that accompanied their schooling, thanked all institutions that supported the school's work, students who strive to make the school prestigious, and parents for their trust.

He highlighted the example of the Ibišević family from Brčko, whose fifth daughter completed her schooling at Karađoz-begova medresa today.

During the program, Director Tulek presented awards to the best students of the generation, Faris Ćohković and Iman Demić.

– I am proud of the fact that we all left the Medresa as better people. The Medresa nurtures the tradition of Bosniaks, the moral values of Islam more distinctly than other schools – Faris told us.

A strong impression on him, and on his colleagues, he added, was left by all the professors.

– Most of all our homeroom teachers. We were also friends with all our professors. In class we had professional relationships, and outside, we were one family – said Čohković.

The past four years for Iman Demić were also the most beautiful part of her life so far, in which she matured as a person and formed a personality that she will further build upon.

Along with her will and effort, her professors played a major role in achieving excellent results.

– The Medresa is special because students come from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. And precisely because of that, we have special relationships, because we are not colleagues, but brothers and sisters – emphasized Iman.

She decided to enroll in the Faculty of Medicine, while Faris opted for the Faculty of Islamic Studies.

In the program of the ceremonial academy, which was attended by numerous officials from the public and social life of Mostar, other Bosnian-Herzegovinian medresas, parents, and relatives of the graduates, the Mufti of Mostar, Dr. Salem-ef. Dedović, and the Director of the Department for Religious Affairs of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH, hafiz Dr. Mensur-ef. Malkić, addressed the attendees.

Appropriate congratulations, on behalf of the legislative and executive authorities in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) and the City of Mostar, were conveyed to the graduates by the Chairman of the Assembly, Džafer Alić.

Mufti Dedović, in his address, reminded of the achievements of the original Karađoz-begova medresa, where its students attained enviable knowledge that made both their name and their city of Mostar famous, such as Hasan Zijajia Mostarac.

– I speak about this today for many reasons, because the Medresa is the permanent work of the great benefactor Karađoz-beg, and because this great city, more than a city, which is the fateful gateway of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, rose like a Phoenix, rose from the ashes, stood in the way of all fascisms, all armies that came to defeat it and make it unfree. Mostar was and remains a city of freedom that has not and will not surrender, a city that will, with this youth, guard the trusts of this land – said the Mufti.

With the greetings of the Reis-ul-ulema, Dr. Husein-ef. Kavazović, Director Malkić wished the graduates much success in their further academic advancement, telling them to keep alive the awareness of piety towards Allah, glory be to Him, in all the challenges that life brings them.

He interpreted several Quranic verses and wise verses that speak of the influence of sin on the path of acquiring knowledge and useful skills.

– I call upon you to turn this knowledge you have acquired into good deeds, learn and remember while you are young, because knowledge acquired in youth is more fruitful – Malkić said
