As a three-year-old, Mirsad Bektic fled war, today one of the most successful UFC fighters

Mirsad Bektic, who fled to Italy as a three-year-old with his mother and brother, and then to Germany, has been living in the United States for the past 16 years and is one of the best MMA fighters, writes the BH News Agency Patria.

Numerous media outlets have reported on his life, most recently the American usatoday.com, which calls him invincible.

After coming to the US from Germany (Lincoln, Nebraska), he didn't know a word of English, but that didn't stop him from pursuing sports. He started training karate, and later boxing. As a high school student, he began bodybuilding, and after winning competitions, he received an invitation to start MMA.

With his sports experience, Bektic quickly began to win, and today he lives in Florida where he trains with professionals at "American Top Team" and has a contract with the UFC.

In an interview with usatoday.com, Bektic said that he is the way he is today because of what he went through in his childhood and that he constantly feels the need to prove something to himself.

- I don't think that will ever change, and considering that I am professionally involved in MMA, I think that's a good thing – Bektic said.

He has a match ahead of him with Irish fighter Paul Redmond in Stockholm, which will be held on January 24.
