Like a ghost for 55 years, a rich homeless man died

A man who lived as a homeless person, whose lifeless body was found last week at a Milan train station, had over 100,000 euros in his bank account, as well as 19,000 euros worth of stocks and other securities, reports Corriere della sera.

In addition, he received a regular pension, secured by his long-term work in Munich, amounting to 750 euros. He also owned a house in Calabria and two vans. The origin of his entire property has not yet been fully clarified. When he was found dead on Thursday on his makeshift bed at Porta Garibaldi station, he had 1235 euros in his pocket.

Umberto Quintino Diaco disappeared from his native mountain village in southern Italy when he was only 17 years old and went to Germany. "He decided to become a ghost forever," testifies his sister Chiarina. "We looked for him everywhere, but he simply didn't want us to succeed."

Diaco's assets were located in Caritas's mailbox, the only organization he trusted despite constant pleas from various volunteers to seek help and get off the streets.
