CANTON SARAJEVO Air quality improved, 'Standby' episode remains in effect

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Given the forecasted weather situation and the decrease in air pollutant concentrations, the Expert Body for Coordination and Monitoring, in accordance with the provisions of the Intervention Measures Plan in cases of excessive air pollution, has recommended to the Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection to lift the 'Alert' episode in zones A, B, C, D of Sarajevo Canton, while maintaining the 'Standby' episode in all zones.

During yesterday and the early morning hours, there was a significant decrease in pollutant concentrations, and it is expected that concentrations will not exceed the values set for the 'Standby' episode by the end of the day, except possibly in the area monitored by the Ilijaš automatic station.

According to the synoptic forecast of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, stable weather is predicted for today and the next 48 hours, with the possibility of periodic temperature inversions, which should not contribute to further air pollution.

A significant change in weather conditions, which should favorably affect air quality, is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday with strengthening winds and new precipitation.

Measurements of air pollutant concentrations in Sarajevo Canton have shown that exceedances of the daily limit value for PM10 (50 µg/m3) for the previous day were recorded at the automatic stations in Ilijaš, Hadžići, Ilidža, and Otoka settlement.

Other monitored pollutants did not record exceedances of the limit values, except for hydrogen sulfide at the Ilidža station of 8.9 µg/m3, announced the Service for Protocol and Press of Sarajevo Canton.
