Camera on Maršala Tita Street by the end of the year, ending the rampage of drivers and motorcyclists through the city center

SARAJevo, (Patria) – The rampage of cars and motorcycles on Sarajevo's main thoroughfare, Maršala Tita Street, is a daily sight witnessed by all other road users and numerous pedestrians. The speed at which reckless drivers speed by exceeds even triple digits, not to mention the noise they produce with their engines.

Although this is the very center of the city and a street where hundreds of traffic accidents have occurred, a camera has not yet been installed to slow down the arrogant drivers passing through this part of the city, even to a small extent.

Cameras have been installed at several busy locations in the past, and as confirmed to Patria by MUP KS spokesperson Mirza Hadžiabdić, the existing camera system will be expanded this year. Therefore, it is expected that one camera will be installed on Sarajevo's main thoroughfare on the section from the Eternal Flame to the intersection near the BBI Center.

Video cameras installed at several locations in Sarajevo are connected to the competent police stations. They record and document everything that happens at these locations.

Cameras are also located on Zmaja od Bosne Street (in Pofalići), while two are installed in Otoka and they cover both directions of the roadway. Video cameras are also at the intersections of Maršala Tita and Alipašina streets, then Derviša Numića and Put Mladih muslimana, and at the intersection of Obala Kulina bana and Mustaj-pašin mejdan streets.

The installation of a camera on Sarajevo's main thoroughfare could prevent the number of traffic accidents, which are very often caused by excessive speed.

According to data from the MUP KS Police Directorate, 9,231 traffic accidents occurred in the Sarajevo Canton area in 2019. A total of 1,050 people were injured in traffic accidents, twelve people died, while 1,038 people were injured, 172 seriously and 866 lightly.
