(Patria) - On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the official signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos issued a joint statement.
They pointed out that this agreement ended one of the darkest chapters in Europe and ensured peace that lasts to this day.
However, they added, 30 years later there are unresolved challenges from the past for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"While this year has presented political obstacles, the country has remained resilient. Staying on course towards EU membership as a united, sovereign country in a stable and secure region - must remain the ultimate goal," wrote Kallas and Kos.
They emphasized that all political leaders should focus on the necessary reforms to move the country forward.
They pointed out that the EU is ready to ensure peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and stressed that the EUFOR Althea military operation remains necessary for that.
"Thirty years after Dayton, Bosnia and Herzegovina must seize the chance to shape its future in the EU," Kos and Kallas stated.
